My collection - Updated Pics w/ new camera 6/14/11

Here are some pictures I took after I got everything close to where I want it. I haven't tied the cords back or really gotten it finalized.... but it's close. It's amazing I can still fill the room after selling 75% of my non-whelen stuff.

The housing that the Meteor is in- what was that made for? It looks like it's for some kind of molded body, like the front of an ambulance.

Seems like you've got mostly hard to find stuff in your collection. I like it.

If you mean the stinger.... it came of a Chicago Collins brand ambulance that had been repainted and used as a support vehicle (foam truck or maintenance truck is what they were usually turned into). During this period Chicago unbalances had only the box flashers plus one of these lights to the front and a model 14 beacon to the rear (very minimal but effective). Below are some pics... the last one is "post snag"

    My collection is limited to

    Whelen
    Oscillating lights and TCLs
Large beacons and/or Beacons with par 46 sealed beams
    Foreign lights

Anything that doesn't fall into those categories is still for sale.

    Purple Blob??

    John,
could that Whelen 8000 (above the small 8000) with alternating r/b lenses and r/b inserts could qualify for your beloved "purple blob" warning? Just kidding. Nice collection!

Actually when they are on you see mainly the par 46 flashers with little tiny blinks of clear and pink. The strobes were by no means bright in the 8000 bars, and they looked pink and clear vs red and blue. The PAR 46 lights totally drown out the strobes in brightness, the color isn't really the factor in this case.

I have quite a few lights that don't work well in real life in my collection.... some of them for that very reason. The setup on the edge on the bottom row looks cooler off than on. My amber and red mini advantedge looks all amber when on. The alternating colors allows the amber to overpower the red. The red/clear split commander beacon looks all clear when on, the clear overpowers the red. There are plenty of color combo fails and general model/edition fails in my collection. Split lenses and multiple alternating colors look cool all polished up in a collection, they are just bad for warning.

    Clear/red 8000

I would love to see that clear/red 8000 halogen in action. I bet that one does not drown out the colors.

Right when I got it, the rotator with the filter was filthy and off balance... it rotates at the same speed as the others now. I'll get a current vid at some point.

Thanks for the clarifications/explanations about doing color combos. I've noticed that too, in some circumstances, like candycane AeroDynics that are c/r/c c/r/c. You don't see much of the red. Even if one third of it's red, seems like red represents wayyyy less than one third of the "percepted" color...
    Very original items nonetheless.

Candycane aerodynics look so cool when off..... If I collected Federal I'd want one for sure. You're right, they might as well be all clear when on though.

Could that be helped by only putting mirrors in the clear sections and rotators in the red ones?

I'd guess maybe a little bit.. it might be hard to line up.

Updated... now with 3 sizes of blue whelen 8000 bars, some dashmasters, some edge surface mount lights, another commander and a few other things. Have some more stuff coming including an advantedge and a few 80h and 90h bars.

John, do you think you could post a video of your red and clear Whelen AdvantEdge? I've never seen one in action before.

Wonderful display John. The Advantedge is moving higher and higher up on my wish list. Curiously I don't seem to see a lot of them with the additional lower level lights on them. Were they really a rare option?

They weren't terribly popular up in my neck of the woods, the few I've seen were old all amber bars on construction trucks, all beat up and dirty.
    I don't fight, I end threats.
